During your first appointment, your psychiatric provider will spend time reviewing your history and understanding your current symptoms and stressors/situations. During this time, preliminary diagnoses are made, though, while everyone’s experience is different, sometimes definitive diagnoses cannot be established in this single 50-minute session.
The relationship between your emotional and medical state, combined with your genetics and family history, can be complex and challenging. Dependent on your individual situation, your provider may seek additional information and will order and/or administer laboratory or genetic testing. We may also refer you to be seen by other providers for services including psychological or neurological testing, psychotherapy, or for medical specialty outside the realm of psychiatry.
